2026 Distribution Rates and Charges

Effective January 1, 2026, following approval from the Ontario Energy Board (OEB), we’ve updated our distribution rates.

As a result of the OEB’s Decision, it is estimated that a typical residential customer with a monthly consumption of 750 kWh could see a total bill increase (excluding taxes and the Ontario Electricity Rebate) of approximately $3.93 per month (2.95%).

Burlington Hydro Inc.’s distribution rates and services are regulated by the OEB, an independent provincial government agency.

Our Approved Cost of Service Application

On April 16, 2025, Burlington Hydro filed a Cost-of-Service application with the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) requesting approval of our electricity distribution rates and related charges for 2026.

The OEB approved the application, and the new rates took effect on January 1, 2026.

Burlington Hydro Scorecard

Ontario’s electricity utility scorecards provide a yearly measure of how well each utility is performing.

The scorecard is designed to promote transparency and continuous improvement, encouraging utilities to operate efficiently, enhance productivity, and focus on the service areas that matter most to customers. Each year, utilities publish their results online for public review.

Major Outage Event Response

When a distributor determines that an outage was caused by a Major Event, it must submit a report to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) outlining its response and providing information related to the event.

Major Events are extraordinary occurrences beyond a distributor’s control that cause significant disruption to the distribution system. These events are unforeseeable, unpredictable, unpreventable, or unavoidable — often severe weather incidents such as ice storms, floods, or tornadoes.

Burlington Hydro has not experienced a Major Event within the last 12 months.

Electricity Distribution Licence

Burlington Hydro’s Electricity Distribution Licence confirms our legal authority to own and operate an electricity distribution system within our designated service area. Issued by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB), the licence outlines the regulatory requirements, obligations, and standards we must follow as a licensed electricity distributor. This framework ensures we deliver safe, reliable service in compliance with provincial rules.
