Account Fees
A one-time account start-up charge of $30 plus HST applies when opening your account. Depending on your account type and credit history, you may also be required to provide a security deposit. Additional fees may apply if service upgrades or connection work are needed.
If account information is received after a move has taken place, responsibility for any charges incurred before your account is opened will be between the previous and current occupants. Once we are notified of the move, we will process the change within five business days.

Security Deposit
If you’re opening a Burlington Hydro account for the first time, you may be asked to provide a security deposit. This amount is based on our estimate of your average monthly electricity usage and can be paid in convenient installments.
Deposits for Low-income residential Customers will be established in accordance with the latest version of the Distribution System code (DSC).
Returning and Applying Your Deposit
Your deposit will be returned after one full year of good payment history or when your account is closed, whichever comes first. Interest is calculated monthly and automatically applied to your account.
- If your account remains active, the deposit will appear as a credit on your bill.
- If your account is closing and there’s an outstanding balance, the deposit will be used to cover the amount owed. Any remaining balance will be refunded to you.
