An initial pilot will focus on a targeted rural corridor, with the potential to expand the program based on results.

Program Overview

Overhead distribution poles are critical components of Burlington Hydro’s electricity system. Through routine inspections and testing, some wood poles may show signs of deterioration while still remaining structurally serviceable.

The Pole Reinforcement Program is designed to address this challenge by reinforcing existing poles rather than replacing them outright—where it is safe and appropriate to do so. This approach supports reliability, reduces material use, and allows Burlington Hydro to make responsible, cost‑effective infrastructure investments.

As part of this program, Burlington Hydro is planning an initial pilot involving approximately 10 poles located along No. 1 Side Road between Guelph Line and Appleby Line.
