Burlington Hydro Receives Prestigious 2018 Safest Employer Award

Canadian Occupational Safety recognizes achievements of a healthy and safe work place

October 25, 2018 – Burlington Hydro Inc. (BHI) is honoured to have been recognized by Canadian Occupational Safety for achieving industry excellence in employee health and safety as a Silver Winner of Canada’s Safest Employer, in the Utilities and Electrical category.

Canada's Safest Employers recognizes Canadian companies that are making a difference in promoting the health and safety of their workers.  Companies are judged on a wide range of occupational health and safety elements including leadership commitment, employee training, incident investigation, emergency preparedness and innovative health and safety initiatives.

“We credit our safety record to the actions of our employees who are empowered to take a preventive approach to safety for both themselves and their colleagues,” said Jennifer Smith, Vice President, Corporate Relations, Burlington Hydro Inc. “Safety is woven into the fabric of what we all do – every day.”

The company’s safety-first operational culture is committed to continuous improvement through training and professional certification. From the restoration crews that brave the elements, to the operations and control room team that oversee the company’s response efforts - and everyone in between - safety permeates the entire organization.

“We take great pride in our safety record and our commitment to keeping our workplace and community safe. We are honoured to have our efforts recognized by Canadian Occupational Safety,” said Gerry Smallegange, President and Chief Executive Officer of Burlington Hydro.

We also congratulate our fellow Ontario local distribution companies - Toronto Hydro, Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro, and Peterborough Utilities Group - for receiving awards in the Utilities and Electrical category.
