Burlington Hydro Unveils Recipients in Conservation Hall of Fame Ceremony

BURLINGTON, ON November 12, 2015 – On Thursday, November 12, 2015, seventy six local Burlington business leaders, representing forty four different companies/organizations/institutions, joined Burlington Hydro for an induction ceremony into Burlington Hydro’s Conservation Hall of Fame at LaSalle Park in west Burlington. Each company was presented with a plaque recognizing their commitment to a sustainable future and their participation in the saveONenergyOM ‘For Business’ program. The programs are offered by Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) and are delivered by Burlington Hydro.

The saveONenergy ‘For Business’ programs have been offering incentives to local businesses since January 2011. From 2011 to 2014, participation in the programs has contributed 9,066 kW and 66,018,038 kWh towards Burlington Hydro conservation and demand management (CDM) targets. Over $4 million in customer incentives have been paid out. Impressively, the energy saved is equal to powering over 8,000 residential homes. The programs included:

  • 583 completed Retrofit projects
  • 26 completed Energy Audits
  • 10 High Performance New Construction projects
  • 1 completed Process and Systems project

Retrofit Program

When Owners or lessees of commercial, industrial, agricultural or institutional facilities retrofit existing equipment with new energy efficient upgrades or install new control systems that improve efficiency, they can earn up to 50% of their project costs.

Eligible measures include:

  • Lighting and controls
  • HVAC units
  • Refrigeration units
  • Variable frequency drives
  • Compressed air units
  • Motors

583 retrofit projects have been completed in Burlington since January 2011
Total amount of incentives earned by local businesses: $3,466,667.42
27,035,976 kWh in energy consumption and 5,796.89 kW in demand

Audit Funding Program

The Audit Finding incentive is intended to cover up to 50% of the cost of an energy audit. An energy audit is the first step in a company’s understanding of how energy is being used in their building and helping them reduce operating costs and improve performance.

High Performance New Construction

This program provides design assistance and incentives for building owners and planners who design and implement energy efficient equipment within their new space.

10 HPNC projects completed in Burlington since January 2011

Process and Systems

The Process and Systems program is designed to help organizations with complex systems and processes identify, implement, and validate energy efficiency projects from start to finish.

One PSUI project has been completed in Burlington with an incentive of $71,400

Existing Building Commissioning

Incentives are available to improve a chilled water system's energy performance.

One EBCX project completed in Burlington with an incentive of $2,600
