Government Announces Fixed Electricity Price: COVID-19 Recovery Rate
June 1, 2020
The Government of Ontario has introduced a fixed electricity price known as the ‘COVID-19 Recovery Rate’ for all Regulated Rate Plan (RPP) time-of-use customers.* Customers who pay time-of-use electricity rates – households, farms and small businesses - will now be billed the “COVID-19 Recovery Rate” of 12.8 cents/kWh.
The fixed recovery rate of 12.8 cents/kWh applies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is in effect from June 1 to October 31, 2020.
No changes are proposed for RPP customers who are billed on tiered rates: the winter prices continue to apply and the winter consumption threshold will continue to apply until October 31, 2020.
Burlington Hydro will work with customers and can offer a number of payment terms/options for those who are struggling to pay their electricity bills. We have several financial assistance programs in place that can help those facing financial challenges.
*Be advised that this pricing change does not apply to RPP customers who pay tiered rates. It also does not apply to consumers who have opted out of RPP to sign a contract with an electricity retailer.
