Burlington Hydro Thanks King Paving and Construction for Use of its Operations Yard
Air-Gapped Crews have Operated Successfully from King’s Yard since Last Spring
Burlington Hydro (BHI) would like to acknowledge and thank King Paving and Construction Ltd. for providing space at its Howard Road yard location as an alternate Burlington Hydro operations station. Due to COVID-19 and the circumstances of maintaining service commitments as an ‘essential’ service, the King location has been used by Burlington Hydro since the spring of 2020.
The yard location aligned with other preventive measures that were in force to protect the health and safety of our company’s workers. To ensure separation – referred to as ‘air gaps’ - line crews were split into two: those who reported to BHI headquarters, and others who reported to a station set up at the King yard. By splitting crews, BHI was assured that individual workers were contained and would be available and able to respond to power outages and emergencies through the pandemic. In addition, and to ensure physical distancing protocols, one technician per vehicle was assigned along with other safety measures that were adopted while in the field.
As Ontario is on the cusp of entering Step 3, BHI is adjusting to accommodate the circumstance. As such, all crews have been recalled to the Burlington Hydro yard at 1340 Brant Street. While masking and physical distancing measures continue, crews and all workers continue to operate in a safe and secure environment on-site at BHI.
Once again, thank you to King Paving and Construction for accommodating space on their property that has allowed BHI to air-gap its crews and remain safely separated through the pandemic.
