How The HST Effects Your Bill?

On July 1st, 2010, The Province of Ontario implemented the HST. Your electricity bill is subject to this 13% tax, which accounted for an 8% increase in your overall bill.

How The Ontario Clean Energy Benefit (OCEB) Works

  • Provides a 10 per cent reduction on the total electricity portion of the bill for residential and small business customers.
  • Came into effect on January 1, 2011 and extends for five years.
  • Customers who qualify for this credit are: Residential, under 50 kW OR under 250,000 kWh (RPP customers).
  • All charges except fees such as late penalty fees, connect fees, reconnect fees, NSF fees are included in the calculation. HST on the eligible charges are also included the calculation. Prior balances are not included.
