Electricity Distributors Association Award Acknowledges GridSmartCity’s Stakeholder Outreach Program
Burlington, April 7, 2011 — The GridSmartCity™ outreach program has been named winner of the 2010 Public Relations Innovation Award by the Electricity Distributors Association (EDA).
Burlington Hydro, President & CEO, Gerry Smallegange says, “Winning the award acknowledges GridSmartCity as a model forum for enhanced collaboration between local distribution companies, large customers, suppliers and other energy-focused organizations. We congratulate all of the GridSmartCity Partners for the achievement of this prestigious award.”
Twenty-three organizations have now joined the ranks to become GridSmartCity partners working collectively towards advancements in self-healing grids, conservation program implementation and the emergence of renewable energy together with community energy planning. GridSmartCity’s growing roster of partners includes provincial and local government, universities, smart grid and green energy corporations and neighbouring utilities.
The GridSmartCity EDA Award submission focused on two key efforts in 2010 – the Community Launch of GridSmartCity, showcasing Canada’s first all-electric zero emission fleet vehicle, and the first annual GridSmartCity Round Table which assembled more than 200 industry and community leaders.
“Common to both initiatives, ” says Smallegange, “was a focus on reframing the interaction between electricity utilities, customers and industry innovators to embrace green energy and smart grid opportunities, but, amidst the reality of challenges within the electricity supply chain, and towards the goal of delivering more choice to the consumer.”
“GridSmartCity is helping define a future direction that is essential for Burlington Hydro and the industry as a whole, to meet the needs of tomorrow’s customers, which are evolving quickly,” says Smallegange.
