At Burlington Hydro, we pursue a variety of awards and certifications. Both the effort and the outcomes, underscore our commitment to our customers.

Path To Zero

Burlington Hydro maintains a strong and ongoing commitment to the Path to Zero program implementing a managed Health, Safety and Environment System. This system aligns with the vision of our industry health and safety association and the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association, which administers ZEROQuest – Paths to Zero program. The program is based on eliminating all sector workplace injuries and illnesses by 2011.

Burlington Hydro has successfully achieved the third phase of the Electrical and Utilities Path to Zero Award Program - the Gold Award. The award recognizes Burlington Hydro’s realization of a healthy and safe work environment in accordance with strict criteria and measurement standards.

Other safety recognition includes the completion of an industry Internal Responsibility System Audit, in which Burlington Hydro scored above the industry benchmark, and the Safety Climate Survey.

Engineering Excellence

In 2008, The Engineering Society recognized Burlington Hydro’s Switching Automation System with the Electrical Engineering Project of the Year. The system, the first of its kind in Ontario at time of installation, automatically restores power in the critical load areas in Downtown Burlington, and is a key catalyst behind reductions in the duration of outages, and gains in electricity reliability. Customer Service Innovation

A subsequent phase of the Switching Automation System, which saw an expansion to 50 key installations of Intelli-Team Auto Detection and Restoration technology, secured Burlington Hydro the Electricity Distributors Association (ESA) Award for Customer Service Innovation in 2009.

Public Relations Innovation

In 2011, Burlington Hydro’s acclaimed Grid Smart City in initiative won top honors from the ESA for Public Relations Innovation.
