City-wide installations will continue through to November, 2010.
As part of the Ontario Government’s Smart Meter Plan, Burlington Hydro Inc. will install smart meters in all Burlington households, businesses and institutions between now and the end of 2010. Our full roll-out of Smart Meter installations, covering the balance of City of Burlington began this May.
Some Burlington customers have previously received Smart Meters, either as part of test pilots or new residential construction.
For now, nothing will change. Once your new Smart Meter is installed, it will continue to work just like your current meter. There will be no immediate change to how your electricity rates work, or how you will be billed.
The arrival of Smart Meters to Burlington is a first step in building Ontario’s new smart metering system – and a key step in building a culture of conservation. By the end of 2010, every home and small business in Ontario will have a Smart Meter.
Here are some key points to remember about Smart Meter installations:
- Once our program fully ramps up, Burlington Hydro Inc. will provide customers advance notice that Smart Meters will be installed in their neighbourhood several weeks ahead of time. We will not be booking specific household appointments.
- If your meter is located outside, you don’t need to be at home.
- If we can not access your old meter, we will leave a notification on your door with a special phone number to call to make arrangements
- We will need to turn power off for a brief period (approximately 10 minutes under normal circumstances), and apologize for any inconvenience.
- There will be no immediate change to how your electricity rates work, or how you will be billed.
Please Note: Our representatives will not ask for your Hydro bill, and you are not required to sign a contract.
