News Try not to look so shocked -- your hydro is actually going down. On Wednesday, the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) issued rate orders for decisions on 2008 electricity distribution rate applications for utilities. As a result of the decisions, Burlington Hydro Inc. clients will be paying less for electricity consumption starting next month. The average total bill decrease estimate for a Burlington Hydro user consuming 1,000 kilowatt-per-hour each month will be 6.23 per cent or $7.50. The rate changes take effect May 1. “We're doing our best for the consumer, being as efficient as we can," Burlington Hydro's Chief Operating Officer Gerry Smallgange said. Distribution rates are set to recover the cost to deliver electricity to consumers and are based on an individual utility's cost of providing electricity service. Distribution rates are reflected in the "delivery" line of consumers' bills. The OEB regulates the province's public electricity and natural gas sectors.
